You know it’s out there.
Bad writing – fragments, run-on sentences, jargon, misspelling – is running rampant!
Firm scandals and badmouthing are showing up everywhere, making you wonder what they were thinking.
Send us your examples of writing run amuck or PR/media mishaps. We’ll post them (and protect the innocent!) Each month we’ll award the contributor of the best of the worst a $5 Starbucks card.
Cheryl in Pearland, TX is this month’s winner. She found this doozy:
“We therefore strive to construct a design process that is collaborative, integrated and participatory, where all voices can be heard, from specialist engineers, designers and constructors to clients and users, that results in buildings and environments that are distinctive in their conceptual clarity and visual and spatial intensity.”
1 sentence, 48 words!
Here is the Witz!PR suggested rewrite.
“Our design process is collaborative, integrated and participatory. It allows all voices to be heard, from specialist engineers, designers and constructors to clients and users. Our process results in buildings and environments distinctive in their conceptual clarity, and visual and spatial intensity.”
Some advice:
8 words is the average length of a sentence that readers will read and comprehend.* A good rule of thumb is that you should be able to read your sentence aloud in one breath.
